Mattie M. Fuller

Mattie Mae (McGee) Fuller was the eldest of ten children born to Robert McGee and Alice McGee (Cooper) on January 24, 1929 in Greenwood, Mississippi. As a single mother to Josie McGee (Manning), Peggy McArthur (Green) and George Edward McArthur, she settled in Monroe, Louisiana and worked picking cotton and, later, as a domestic. In Louisiana she married Albert Fuller, Sr. and moved to Oakland, California. To that union, four children were born: Albert Fuller, Sharon Fuller (Onadele), Debra Fuller (Ponder) and Paula Fuller. In the 1970s, Mattie worked for the Oakland Unified School District as an institutional aide, a position from which she retired. In 1978, the family moved to Fremont, California. Mattie had a deep, abiding faith in God and was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for more than 40 years. After the passing of her husband of 42 years in 2004, she attended Hope Community Church religiously. She ensured that she instilled that faith in God to all of her children. Mattie had a number of hobbies that she enjoyed, including gardening, fashion, playing games (Monopoly), cake decorating, writing poetry, and walking around Lake Elizabeth. She also enjoyed playing Bingo at the Fremont Senior Center. Mattie was preceded in death by three of her children: Sharon Fuller-Onadele, Albert Fuller, Jr. and George Edward McArthur. Through it all, her faith in God gave her comfort and peace. Mattie leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Josie Manning (husband, Leray Manning) of Antioch, CA, Peggy Green of Fremont CA, Debra Ponder (husband, Miguel Ponder) of San Ramon, CA, Paula Fuller (husband, Philip Thompson) of Fremont, CA; two brothers: Otis McGee (wife, Tina McGee), George McGee (wife, Helen), James McGee; sisters: Gert Johnson (husband Johnson), Willie McGee; grandchildren: LaShelle Manning, Frederick Manning, Jr., Tuurischeva Green, Knecaya Green, Alice McArthur, George McArthur, Mattie McArthur, Babatunde Onadele, Abiola Onadele, and Jalen Ponder; great-grandchildren: Patrick Manning, Khajaana Williams, Solomon Onadele, and Corrine Onadele, all of California, and a host of other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins around the country. Private services were held.
